Pre-Purchase Condition and Value Survey
This is the most extensive survey for a prospective buyer of
a vessel. It involves the inspection of the hull, structure,
under water portion of hull and machinery if hauled, propulsion,
fuel, sanitation, water, steering, and any other systems on the
vessel. Moisture readings are taken and the exterior hull is
"sounded" with a sounding hammer.
This report will reference compliance with the Code of
Federal Regulations, United States Coast Guard requirements,
American Boat and Yacht Council standards, and National Fire
Protection Association standards.
A sea trial will be conducted for a nominal fee, if it is
done the same day as the survey. If the sea trial needs to be
done at a later time, the fee will be determined by the time and
mileage involved in the trip.
Insurance Condition and Value Survey
This type of survey may be needed if the owner of a boat
changes insurance companies or as the boat ages to determine its
current condition, value and suitability of the vessel for its
intended use. This type of survey does not have as many details
about the joinery and finish of the cabin. Instead, it focuses
on the hull, structure and systems. The insurance company may or
may not require that the vessel be hauled out for a bottom
inspection.
Appraisal
A vessel may be inspected for the purpose of determining its
fair market value. This can be used for financing, estate sales,
donation, or legal purposes.
Damage
An inspection may be needed on a vessel to determine the
extent of the damage it has incurred, along with recommended
repairs and estimated costs of repairs.
Consulting Services
The surveyor can be hired as a consultant. Payment will be
based on an hourly fee and mileage.
Oil analysis or corrosion analysis can be requested for an
additional charge.
